INDUS subsidiary BUDDE wins another major contract DPD’s largest parcel sorting plant to date to take up operation on 9 September 2019

Bergisch Gladbach / Bielefeld, 6 September 2019

BUDDE Fördertechnik GmbH, a subsidiary of the listed INDUS Group, has signed a major contract; the Bielefeld-based company (450 employees) has built one of Germany’s largest sorting facilities for DPD’s new parcel sorting center in Hamm. The 17,300-square-meter building is the largest depot the international parcel and express service provider has ever built in Germany. A volume of EUR 25 million also makes it the largest contract in BUDDE’s company history. The sorting plant will start operation on 9 September 2019.

Construction and assembly took two years, during which 1,000 tons of steel were processed. The turnkey conveyor system has a total length of more than 7.5 kilometers, allowing DPD to process up to 30,000 parcels per hour fully automatically. The plant uses low-consumption and low-noise motors and drives. At the final stage, the system will be able to sort 200,000 parcels per day. Conveying technology specialist BUDDE designed the entire plant as a customized system solution for DPD.

“We are very proud of our new parcel sorting center in Hamm, which is an important element in managing our future volume growth,” said DPD CEO Boris Winkelmann at the opening ceremony. “The site will set new standards of performance for our Germany-wide network.”

But this is just the beginning, as the next plant is already being built in Augsburg at a cost of EUR 25 million. BUDDE Fördertechnik counts a total of five parcel service providers among its customers, with a good 60 percent of the revenues generated outside Germany. “The parcel delivery business is growing strongly,” says Managing Director and co-shareholder Jürgen Budde. “Backed by our parent company INDUS, even a family business like ours is able to accept such large contracts and deliver them on time.”
